Thurso River |
|||||
| We regularly paddle the Dirlot gorge *Grade 2-3+ depending on level, you can keep a check on the river level here or go the the road bridge at Halkirk and have a look at the gauge. The river needs at least 12 inches to make it run-able with a few scrapes (approx 30 cms in metric money) However 16 inches upwards is better. Optimum levels would be 30 inches plus. Over 40 inches the river starts to flatten although very fast flowing. There is also a nice rapid at westerdale bridge which is worth a look if you have time. Edit after major flooding during October 2006 the river has changed levels suitible for running is now 20 inches upwards on the gauge | |||||
