| Sunday saw some better conditions with an offshore wind rather than the onshore blast of Saturday. I had just popped along to watch for half an hour without my gear, Pity really as the surf looked much better than the previous day. | |||||

| We arrived early in the morning with big expectations only to be down heartened by the wild conditions. The decision was made to wait for a couple of hours for the tide to subside a bit. Most headed away for a supermarket breakfast. However the foolhardy (stupid some may say) made a quick run out to Dunnet beach to see if we could grab a few waves, The wind was roaring in and the waves were coming in very fast. I managed to swim before I even got out past the rollers. A fluffed roll and a mouthful of water meant a swim back to the shore with some weed in my ear. Quickly back out, well quick isn't exactly what I would call it more of a struggle really, we managed to catch a few waves and get some successful rolls this time before packing up and heading back to Thurso, We arrived in time to see the first heat start, it looked like hard work paddling out through the weather. The decision was made that the come and try session that we had hoped to take part in was cancelled due to safety reasons :-( So we sat and watched the experts compete for a little while before packing up for home. Unfortunately I am working this evening so couldn't hang around for long but I can imagine that things will stop early and they will hit the pub. I know where I would rather be ;-) | |||||
