Caithness Kayak Club

The day was blustery and a reasonable swell was rolling in to the shore at Lybster harbour so a committee decision was made to reconvene to Loch Watten so that the younger paddlers would be able to manage and enjoy the day.
So off we went across the county to Watten and an assortment of paddlers young and not so young hit the water. This was the first day that all our new boats have been used together. The new dagger dynamos were a big hit with the younger ones who had been using the europa kayaks in the past.  These smaller lighter and much easier to handle boats were ideal and you could see a big improvement in the young ones confidence, skill and energy levels throughout the day. The new inazones were well liked by the teenage paddlers and some of the larger paddlers shoehorned themselves in for a little shot and were quite impressed as well. After a short paddle around to let everyone get used to being on open water (some of them for the first time) in our new boats we had a group photo and then back ashore for a wee bite to eat
After lunch it was back on the water and a large group had a game tag with a water ball. We had great fun and had one swimmer who now knows how far you can lean a boat. A quick rescue was performed and the game was back on. While we were playing some of the others were going for a paddle round the small island and back.
At the end of the day Iain and Steven had a quick 5 mile blast up and down the loch to stretch the muscles a bit before packing up and heading for home.

All in all a great day out and good tryout of the clubs new boats and equipment that we purchased earlier this year with the help of a lottery grant
